Lots of people don't really think highly of martial arts.

Which is okay, I guess, to each his own, but what ticks me off is people who think fighting is just two guys trying to hit each other harder.

I wouldnt agree with that. When two fighters collide, the energy and spirit of the two are as one. They flow around each other, moving, opposing, smashing, retreating. In the Western world, the fighter tries to impose his will on the other. In the Eastern, the fighter mirrors and reacts to the will of the other. No matter what it is this collective purpose and will and collective mind creates a harmony between two fighters, one that can be destructive and beautiful, often at the same time.

The improvement in skill of each fighter forces his counterpart to rise above himself and do things he never thought possible. In the eyes of the other each finds himself and tests his mind, body, and spirit in myriads of ways and means. Both develop and understand each other and themself, and turn out better no matter how many bruises and cuts it may take to get there. Fighting should be seen as an art, not a sport.

Nobody said the journey was easy.

OSU!

P.S. my dad said something funny:

punks have hard hair and soft bodies.
true fighters may have soft hair but tough leather hide bodies.

I think, to change it a bit true fighters need soft hearts and hard bodies. :D Sorry maybe that was kinda lame.
